Now that you are ready
for graduate school, what do you do next? You start searching for schools with
your area of concentration/specialization/research interest in mind. Also ensure
that your profile (GPA, GRE/TOEFL Scores, SOP, LORs) meet the graduate
school/department requirement for admission.
With a set of schools
outlined base on your research, start contacting Professor in the department whose
research you are interested in (never send generic emails to long list of
Professors). You should only contact Professors you have a genuine interest in
working with and you can know more about these Professors and the kind of research
they conduct by looking at their Webpages. Prior to contacting a potential
Professor as your advisor, you should ensure that you have gone through his/her
webpage and you understand the scope of his/her research.
It is important to note
that in the search for schools, it is the quality of the research work being
done by the Professor, the availability of funding and the national ranking of
the program that are the most important factors to consider.
